At Quilts N More, we ensure a smooth and collaborative process from start to finish.

Here’s how it works:

The Process

We begin with a free consultation (via phone, Zoom, or in person) to discuss your project. Whether you’re looking for a custom quilt or need help finishing a quilt top, we’ll take the time to understand your needs. For custom quilts, we’ll discuss design preferences, such as color, pattern, size, backing, batting, and quilting motifs. For finishing your already-made quilt top, we will discuss a quilting motif, batting desired and thread choices.

For custom quilts, once we have an understanding of your preferences, we’ll create a design mockup that outlines the quilt’s pattern, fabric choices, motifs, and colors. We’ll share this mockup with you for approval, along with fabric swatches and other options. Once you approve, we’ll will give you an estimated finish time, usually 4-6 weeks.

For your own quilt top, the turnaround time is shorter, 2-4 weeks. We have over 120 E2E designs from which to choose, and custom quilting is available for more intricate projects. As soon as decisions are made for quilting pattern and thread choices, your top will be scheduled and go in the queue, on a first-come, first-served basis.

For commissioned quilts, we’ll cut the fabric and start constructing the quilt top based on your approved design. As the quilt takes shape, we’ll send regular updates, including photos, so you can see the progress.

For long-arm quilting, we’ll load your quilt top, batting, and backing onto the machine and begin the quilting process. Depending on your choices, we’ll use the selected motif or custom quilting pattern to finish your quilt. During this time, we ensure that all seams are secure, fabrics are pressed, and everything is lined up for the best possible result.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a commissioned quilt and long-arm quilting services?

What is the difference between a commissioned
quilt and long-arm quilting services?

A custom-made quilt is created from scratch according to your preferences. You choose the design, colors, patterns, and size, and we make the entire quilt for you. Our long-arm quilting service is for clients who already have a completed quilt top but need it quilted. We use a long-arm quilting machine to stitch the layers of your quilt top, batting, and backing together, either with an edge-to-edge (E2E) pattern or custom quilting.

How long does it take to complete a project?

How long does it take
to complete a project?

The timeline depends on the size and complexity of your project and the number of projects already in the queue. The average timeframe for commissioned quilts is several weeks to a few months, depending on the design, fabric choices, and quilt size. For long-arm quilting, most projects take 2-4 weeks from the time we receive your quilt top, backing, and batting.

One commonly asked question from
your customer that's a little bit longer?

One commonly asked question from your customer that's a
little bit longer?

We offer two main types of quilting patterns:

Edge-to-Edge (E2E): A repeating pattern quilted across the entire surface of the quilt. We have over 120 E2E motifs to choose from, including floral, geometric, and themed designs.

Custom Quilting: More intricate, labor-intensive quilting that complements the specific design of your quilt top. This option is ideal for quilts with detailed or special piecing.

What types of fabric and materials do you use?

We use high-quality quilting cotton for both the front and back of the quilt, as well as quality batting (cotton or polyester) to ensure durability and longevity. You’ll have a say in choosing fabrics, patterns, and colors based on your preferences.

Can I ship my quilt top to you for long-arm quilting?

Yes! We work with clients both locally and across the country. You are responsible for shipping your quilt top, backing, and batting to us. (You may also opt to use our Quilter’s Dream batting, which is kept in-house). Once the project is completed, we will carefully package and ship your finished quilt back to you. Return shipping is at the expense of the client. When we ship the finished quilt back, we’ll provide tracking information for your peace of mind.

How do I choose the right colors and
fabrics for my commissioned quilt?

During the initial consultation for a commissioned quilt, we’ll discuss your color preferences, room decor, and how the quilt will be used or displayed. We offer guidance to help you choose colors and fabrics that will look great now and stand the test of time. Whether you prefer bold and vibrant colors or something more neutral and understated, we’ll make sure the final product reflects your style.

What should I do to prepare my quilt top
for long-arm quilting?

What should I do to prepare my quilt top for long-arm quilting?

If you have any specific questions, we’d be happy to discuss those during your initial consultation. But, in general, to ensure the best results, follow these guidelines before sending your quilt top for long-arm quilting:

Secure all seams: Loose or open seams may result in quilting errors that can’t easily be fixed.

Press your quilt top and backing: Make sure all seams are flat, especially along the borders.

Remove loose threads and embellishments: Loose threads or pins can interfere with the quilting process, and embellishments (like buttons or beads) should be removed.

Ensure backing size: The backing fabric must be 4 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides. This is critical for proper loading onto the long-arm machine.

How much does it cost to commission a
quilt or use long-arm quilting services?

How much does it cost to commission a quilt or use
long-arm quilting services?

Pricing varies based on the size, fabric choices, and complexity of the quilt design. We’ll provide a detailed price estimate during your consultation.

Will I receive updates on my project?

Yes! Whether you’re commissioning a quilt from scratch or using our long-arm services, we’ll send regular updates and photos of your project’s progress. You’ll always be kept in the loop so you can watch your quilt come to life.

What happens if I change my mind
during the process?

Once quilting has begun, it is difficult to make changes to the pattern or thread color, so it's important to finalize those choices during the planning phase.
